Synthesis of Some New 1-[5'-{(2-benzothiazolylthio)methyl}-1', 3', 4'-thiadiazol-2'-yl]-4-substituted-3-chloro-2-azetidinones : Antimicrobial Agent

Abstract

A series of 2-arylideneamino-5-[(2-benzothiazolylthio) methyl]-1<i>'</i>, 3<i>'</i>, 4<i>'</i>-thiadiazoles (<b>4a-j</b>) have been synthesized via condensation of 2-amino-5-[(benzothiazolylthio)methyl]-1, 3, 4, thiadizole <b>3</b> with various carbonyl compounds. Cycloaddition of chloroacetylchloride to <b>4</b> gives 1-[5<i>'</i>-{(2-benzothiazolylthio) methyl}-1<i>'</i>, 3<i>'</i>, 4<i>'</i>-thiadiazol-2<i>'</i>-yl] -4-substituted -3-chloro-2-azetidinones (<b>5a-j</b>) have been synthesized as the final products. All the products have been screened for their antifungal and antibacterial activity against some selected pathogens and found to exhibit mild to pronounce activity.
