| Abstract: | Large Cardamom or Black Cardamom (Amomum subulatulm Roxb.) is a spice crop, chiefly cultivated in north-east sub-Himalayan regions of the country. Besides, it is also grown in Nepal and Bhutan. The crop is best suited for midhill areas with high rainfall , sandy-loam soil rich in organic matter having acidic pH and humid climate. Since long back, Large Cardamom has been grown in small scale in Himachal Pradesh but with passage of time, the crop has been vanishing owing to variety of reasons. Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology has taken steps to conserve the local germplasm. The Institute is also engaged in screening and introducing high yield cultivars of this crop developed by the Spices Board. |
