Abstract: | In the present investigation, the genetics of opium and its different alkaloids has been worked out in F1, and F2 generations obtianed through 5 parents half diallel. It was noticed that morphine content was governed by additive gene action while other characters were generally governed by additive gene action in F1 and by both additive and non-additive gene actions in F2 generation. In general narrow sense heritability was high in F1 than F2 for all the characters. A detailed breeding plan has been discussed to enhance the opium and seed yield. |
