Abstract: The sensitizer dependence of anti -stokes luminescence in the YOCI:Yb, Er system has been reported. In the IR excitation spectra prominent peak occurs at 935 nm. The total emission intensity initially increases with the sensitizer concentration Yb3+ attains an optimum value for 103 ppm of sensitizer concentration and then it decreases with further increase in Yb3+ concentration. Two prominent peaks have been found in the IR excited emission spectra at different wavelengths for different concentrations of sensitizer. These two peaks slightly shift towards shorter wavelength with increasing concentration of the sensitizer. In the UV excitation spectra, two peaks are found, one at 160 nm and other at 260 nm. The spectra are the same for U V and IR excitation. The intensity is remarkably larger under IR excitation than under UV excitation. The mechanism of anti-stokes luminescence has been discussed.
