| Abstract: | Road network of a country forms one of the essential infrastructure items of that country, and, as such, their proper maintenance and upkeep is of utmost importance for maintaining proper communication links. Evaluation and upgradation of surface characteristics of roads form an essential module in the maintenance management of road network. In this connection, this paper describes the indigenous devices developed for pavement evaluation and discusses the direct and indirect benefits of their use in the road industry. Through the extensive usage of these equipments for evaluation of road network, it is possible to improve the surface characteristics of roads, reduce road maintenance costs, conserve petroleum products, reduce vehicle maintenance costs, and optimise the utilisation of available financial and manpower resources for building, maintenance and expansion of road network. |
