Abstract: We have studied the effect of external pressure (10-40Kbar) and internal pressure on the conduction mechanism of Pr2/3Ca1/3MnO3 colossal magneto-resistive materials. Pr2/3Ca1/3MnO3 is an insulator at low temperatures and on applying external pressure above 10Kbar there is a plateau in resistivity at 115K temperature, giving indications of an insulator-metal transition. Similar indications are also seen at 113K on replacing Mn+3 by Fe+3 in Pr2/3Ca1/3MnO3. Such a behaviour of Pr2/3Ca1/3MnO3 and Pr2/3Ca1/3FeO3  has been explained on the basis of competition between double exchange and super-exchange mechanisms.
