Abstract: It has now been realized that the phyto-hormones produced in minute (microgram) quantities in plants are highly beneficial for their growth and development. Different plant hormones, mainly auxins, gibberellins, cytokinins, abscisic acid and ethylene have synergistic and/or antagonistic effects on each other. However, their interactions vary from species to species and from tissue to tissue. Our knowledge on phyto-hormones in relation to their quantity, site of action, mechanism and interrelationship is still limited. But, in view of their beneficial effects in increasing the crop productivity, it is now been clear that in coming years phyto-hormones could emerge as in indispensable tool in solving the problem of food production to suffice the hunger of ever increasing population.
