Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) carry large amount of energy and mass into the interplanetary space. Recently CMEs are known as a main source of geomagnetic disturbances and changes in cosmic ray intensity. In this work, 55 halo CME events are selected for the period of 1996 to 2000 to derive their effects on cosmic ray intensity. It has been investigated that CMEs in association with sudden storm commencement (SSC) are found to be more effective in producing short-term transient decreases in cosmic ray intensity.en_US
