Abstract: The on-line information retrieval, though in existence for quite some time, are not much used in developing countries for various reasons such as, non-availability of facilities, users unwillingness to search on their own etc. The present study conducted to assess the attitudes of the users of the National Ship Design Research Centre (NSDRC), Visakhapatnam (India) reveals the preference of users for online search rather than manual method. Other aspects of online search by the users such as, types of database preference, use of search strategy and search aids, search techniques, knowledge of technology etc. are also studied.
