Abstract: An empirical study aiming at analyzing the pattern of development of the information technology (IT) sector across the countries of the world, and assessment of its impact on their socio-economic development. Examines the variations in the selection and performance of the IT factors in the twenty one sample countries. Computes the ranking order of these countries based on the IT availabilities. Attempts to estimate the potential demand and the actual supply of IT parameters in the sample regions and also calculates the distance that exists between these two variables in the case of the individual countries. To identify the IT status of the sample countries, and to measure the equity in the adoption and application of IT parameters between these countries, the Wroclaw taxonomic model is applied and the performance index is developed.
