dc.description.abstractA study on the basic parameters such as, sexratio, academic background, age-group, locality belonged, state of knowledge (about LIS) of the students, input, based on 1000 application forms and 800 entrance test sheets of the aspiring candidates for LIS education in Manipur University (during 1993-95), reveals the exact picture of the quality of new entrants to the profession and their characteristics. Though it pertains to an individual university, it may serve as a pointer to the trend of entrants in the profession in general.en_US
