Abstract: Four new bis-phenols, namely 4,4/-decylidene bis-(2,6-dimethylphenol) (1), 6,6/-decylidenebis (2,4-dimethylphenol) (2): 6,6/-decylidene bis-(3,4-dimethylphenol) (3) 4, 4/-Nonylidene bis-(2,6-dimethylphenol) (4) are synthesized and characterized. The micelle formation by the compounds 1-4 in 1 : 9 water and isopropanol solvent have been determined and CMC are found to be 0.335, 0.477, 0.461 and 0.551 mM respectively at 26°C. These long chain bis-phenols inhibit the cesium promoted alkylation of diethanolamine with p-nitrobenzyl bromide.
