Title: Research collaboration in the field of phytopathology - A bibliometric study

Abstract: Investigates the increase in the number of authors per paper and the degree of collaboration (trend towards multiple authorship) in the Phytopathology literature over a period of 50 years (1931-81). The frequency of single author papers decreases from 77.9% in 1931 to 29.62% in 1981 and the frequency of multiple author papers (two and more than two) increased from 22.1% in 1931 to 70.38% in 1981. Over the same period the average number of authors per paper increased from 1.29 to 2.14. The degree of research collaboration has also increased from 0.22 to 0.70.
