Abstract: Meka Natak Kulikai (MNK) is a classical Siddha compound formulation. This drug is prescribed for treating kunmam (peptic ulcer), kulir curankal (fever with rigor), vatam (rheumatism), pitta nir (excessive bile secretion), udal veluppu (anaemia), enpurukki noy (tuberculosis), vayiruvali (abdominal colic pain/abdominal pain), ceriyamai (indigestion), and malakkattu (constipation). Considering the importance of the uses of the drug, it was proposed to evolve the standard operating procedure for its manufacturing process and pharmacopoeial standards. It is mentioned in SFI that mattirai retains the potency for one year if stored in a clean, dry, air tight container. Hence, it was proposed to study its shelf life as well. For the above study, one laboratory scale and three batches of industrial scale preparations were done and analyzed for the same parameters. The developed method and standard would be useful for manufacturers and pharmacies to prepare formulation with uniform consistency. The result will also benefit the researcher in testing the preparation quantitatively.
