Defines the scope of this series of articles. Applies the rules and schedules of CC [3] for the classification of basic and amphoteric oxides, hydroxides, binaries other than oxides acids and salts, and for hydroxides. Highlights the problems involved. Suggests possible lines of amplification of the existing schedules and also offers possible solutions to some of the problems encountered, particularly for working out co-extensive class numbers for hydroxides of an element.en_US
