Vaccines and antibiotics have had a vast impact on world health by controlling often lethal infectious diseases. The world is still facing a burden of infectious diseases like measles, swine flu, acute respiratory infections, typhoid and tuberculosis, and many of which reappear and result in epidemic outbreaks. Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (HRSV) is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia among infants and children. Despite of intensive research over last decades, medical therapy has remained unchanged and controversial. Efforts to develop HRSV vaccines not only failed to protect the children but also led to enhanced lower respiratory track illness and higher hospitalization rates after HRSV infection. In the face of burden of the disease, there is no licensed prophylactic HRSV vaccine and hence there is an urgent need to design safe and effectual vaccine against HRSV. In the present review, earlier attempts for HRSV vaccine discovery and modern treatment option for HRSV infection by reverse vaccinology approach is discussed, which helps in systematic analysis of sequences, structures and interaction of the proteins involved in virus life cycle and stimulating protective immunity.en_US
