A controlled laboratory investigation of impregnated diamond drilling in Granite has been carried out, The influence of the drilling parameters, viz.,thrust and rotational speed,on the penetration rate as well as on the torque developed in the rock mass, at the bit-rock interface has been experimentally determined and presented graphically The features of diamond grits wear are studied under scanning electron microscope, Wear flats are produced due to abrasive action of diamonds on rock at lower thrust and rotation speeds. At higher levels of thrust and rotational speeds; the phenomena of macro-fracturing of diamond grits and subsequent cavity formations in the matrix material are observed.en_US
