A generalized criterion, for designing the intensity modulated fibre optic sensors for industrial applications, has been discussed. The results of the experiment, based on this criterion, lead to the conclusion that such sensing mechanism are suitable for on-line measurement of small linear or angular displacements and related parameters.en_US
