Abstract: Composites are widely used in shipbuilding for reducing the hull weight so that with the installed power greater speed can be achieved. The vessels are built in accordance with the various Classification Society Rules which in most cases lead to conservative designs, however, the basis of the rules prohibits to utilize the properties of the material to its fullest. In the present paper, an attempt has been made to analyze a composite plate under bending by evaluating the properties of each lamina from the properties and quantities of the constituent materials.
