| dc.description.abstract | This paper describes a microprocessor based semi-automatic synchronizer for power systems which works suitably without the aid of conventional meters normally required for synchronizing. The developed synchronizer displays useful information regarding the status of the incoming generator to guide the operator to change machine speed and/or excitation. The related software has been developed around a 8085A CPU based microprocessor and the percentage error in the measurement of frequency can be made as low as 0.392%. Considering the higher cost and complexity of conventional synchronizing arrangements, e.g., automatic turbine run-up system (ATRS), this synchronizer may find significant application in the relevant field. Also, the synchronizer involves low cost and is reliable to be most suitable for captive power plants. It has been tested successfully in the laboratory with a three phase 220 V, 2.7 kVA alternator and the AC supply bus. | en_US |
