In the present paper, estimation of unknown surface condition using known temperature history inside solid material is carried out in conjunction with Beck's sequential method. One-dimensional transient heat conduction equation with different heating condition is analyzed in order to get simulated temperature-time history. The behaviour of the sensitivity coefficient is investigated for two-different types of heating conditions. Explicit and implicit finite element methods are used to solve tran- sient heat conduction equation. A comparative study of explicit and implicit finite element methods applied to the solution of inverse heat conduction problem is studied under identical conditions of the sensor location. An analytical study of sensitivity parameter is carried out in order to understand its behaviour in the prediction of unknown surface condition.en_US
