| dc.description.abstract | Flow parameters such as mean velocity and turbulent fluctuating velocity have been studied both in a swirl and open combustion chambers of a diesel engine using a constant temperature hot-wire anemometer under motoring conditions. The nature of flow field activity is very different in both these types of chambers. A vigorous flow field activity has been observed in swirl chamber during compression and an opposite effect was noticed in open combustion chamber. Large mean velocity was measured at some locations (more than 100 m/s) in the swirl chamber during the last part of the compression stroke. Similar to swirl-squish interaction in open chamber, a swirl-cross flow interaction was noticed in swirl chamber. The effect of speed and compression ratio on flow parameters has been studied in both types of chambers. | en_US |
