| Abstract: | Ion chromatography has been used to analyse major anions, cations and transition metals in the samples of dry deposition, precipitation and aerosols. It can also separate trivalent chromium and hexavalent chromium. It offers the ability to analyse the samples below parts per million (ppm) levels. It determines major anions (F-, Cl‑, NO2- ,PO43-,Br- , NO3-, and SO2+4) in 6 min, the major monovalent cations (Li+, Na+, K+ and NH4+) in 10 min, bivalent metal ions (Pb2+ ,Cu2+, Cd2+, Co2+, Zn2+ and Ni2+) in 16 min and separates trivalent and hexavalent chromium only in 6 min. Ion chromatography is therefore postulated as one of the most selective, fast and sensitive techniques. |
