An attempt has been made to investigate the filtration properties of fabrics of different weaves and pick density for three different types of dust varying in size and nature. It is observed that filtration efficiency of fabrics increases with pick density. This property is also influenced by the nature and size of the dust. It is also found that filtration efficiency increases with time at a particular flow rate as well as pressure drop, but for the fine dust, filtration efficiency decreases as pressure drop across the fabric increases. It is also observed that higher air flow rate during filtration causes reduction in filtration efficiency and dust collection capacity. At higher pick density, the dust collection capacity is high. Cleaning efficiency of fabrics is higher at lower pick density and higher dust deposition. It is also governed by the nature of dust.en_US
