| Abstract: | Needle-punched nonwoven fabrics have been prepared with polyester fibres of normal and trilobal cross-sections using the processing parameters selected on the basis of central rotatable composite design and the influence of processing parameters and cross-sectional shape of fibre on bending length of fabrics studied. It is observed that the bending length initially increases, reaches a peak and then decreases with the increase in needle depth. It shows dual characteristics with the increase in needling density for higher and lower range of needle depth. Bending length increases with the increase in area density of fabric. Besides, fabrics made with the trilobal fibre require slightly more needling density, higher depth of needle penetration and/or area density to have the same bending length as those of fabrics made of normal polyester fibre. |
