Crosslapped needled fabrics normally show a high tensile strength in cross direction than in machine direction. Strength difference increases with the increase in staple length. Strength realization of needled fabrics is primarily influenced by the staple length of the material. Cotton needled fabrics made from needles specially designed for cotton needling tend to have higher tensile strength than those made from normal needles. Absorbency of nonwovens decreases with increase in area density, low-melt fibre content and bonding pressure while the wicking time increases with increase in low-melt fibre content and bonding pressure in thermal-bonded calendered cotton nonwovens. Cotton needled fabrics show a lower absorbency than viscose needled fabrics. However, the absorbency of cotton needled fabrics improves when bleached cotton is used. Further, the absorbency of cotton needled fabrics made from bleached fibre is superior to that of cotton needled fabric bleached in fabric form.en_US
