| Abstract: | Nonwoven needle-punched polypropylene fabrics have been prepared by varying the number of passes, keeping all the machine parameters except strokes/min constant, and the effect of number of passes on the basic physical properties of these fabrics has been studied. With the increase in the number of passes, the mass per unit area, initial thickness and bulk density increase while the width decreases. Lower compressibility and higher recovery with the higher number of passes are observed due to better compactness. Up to 20 kPa normal pressure, the number of passes has very little effect on porosity but above this pressure, porosity is affected considerably. Also, the fabric weight becomes more uniform with higher number of passes. |
