Abstract: The influence of lap hank and card draft on cleaning efficiency, neps/g and fibre disorder in sliver has been studied. The possibility of using coarser preparatory to produce good quality yarn by optimizing the speed frame and ring frame parameters has also been studied. The proportion of curved fibre ends and coefficient of relative fibre parallelization in sliver decrease with the increase in lap weight and decrease in card draft. Yarns made from coarse hanks at preparatory stages using optimum spinning parameters are comparable to mill yarn and meet the ATIRA norms.
