| Abstract: | Mercerized-bleached cotton has been dyed with direct and reactive dyes and subsequently cured with dimethyloldihydroxyethylene urea (DMDHEU) along with mixed catalyst containing magnesium chloride hexahydrate and ammonium chloride in presence of polyethylene emulsion softener. The differential behaviour of direct-dyed and reactive-dyed crosslinked cotton with respect to fastness properties, formaldehyde release, moisture regain, etc. has been discussed. Infrared, optical microscopic and X-ray diffraction studies show more crosslinking in the reactive-dyed samples as compared to that in the direct-dyed ones. |
