The gravimetric fineness (H) is one of the important characteristics of cotton fibre in deciding its spinnability. ATIRA fibre fineness and maturity tester (AFFMT) estimates H-value and maturity of cotton by the double compression method. This paper compares the H-values obtained by three different methods, viz. direct method, AFFMT method, and the proposed method. The analysis shows that as compared to the AFFMT method, the proposed method is superior m one set of data and comparable in another set of data.en_US
