| Abstract: | The rupture process and properties of wrap (parafil) yarns made from jute, wool or jute-wool (64:36) as core and high density polyethylene (HDPE) monofilament as wrapper have been studied. It is observed that core fibre characteristics and wrap density have significant influence on the yarn rupture process and tensile properties. Jute/HDPE yarns show a marked stick-slip effect while the wooVHDPE yarns show a plastically deformable region. The frequency of step break of jute/HDPE yarns decreases with the increase in wrap density, while for wool/HDPE and jute-wool/HDPE yarns, the region of controlled slippage decreases with increase in wrap density. The packing coefficient and development of stress with strain are lowest for wool/HDPE yarns. |
