A decorative quality jute fabric has been bleached with different bleaching agents separately as well as with different bleach combination sequences and the whiteness (%) and yellowness index of the bleached fabrics have been compared before and after exposure to carbon arc radiations in a Fade-Ometer with a view to optimize the pretreatment sequence for minimizing photoyellowing. It is observed that bleaching with sodium hypochlorite followed by hydrogen peroxide gives the optimum whiteness and minimum photoyellowing tendency to the fabric. Reduction of bleached samples with sodium hydrosulphite further improves the whiteness but enhances the photoyellowing tendency.en_US
