| Abstract: | The effect of the direction of ply twist in warp and weft yarns in relation to the direction of twill lines in 212 twill fabrics woven from two-ply cotton yarns on prominence, lustre and other physical properties has been studied. The prominence and lustre of 2/2 twills are greatly influenced by interaction between the directions of yarn twist and twill lines. Fullness, firmness, air permeability, water permeability and other physical properties of twill fabrics are governed by the nesting condition of warp and weft yarns. Same direction of twist in warp and weft yarns promotes bedding condition of yarns, yielding more compact and thinner structures with reduction in air and water permeability of the fabrics. Besides, this condition produces comparatively stronger fabrics for tensile, ballistic and bursting strength, gives higher fabric assistance but less rigidity, less abrasion resistance and less crease recovery. |
