Ethyl 2-amino-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene-3-carboxylate and 2-amino-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[b]thiophene-3-carbonitrile obtained by the condensation of cyclohexanone and sulphur with cyanoethylacetate and malononitrile respectively were diazotized and coupled with ɑ-naphthylamine and the resulting aminomonoazo compounds were further diazotized and coupled with various couplers to give 2-bisazo-3-substituted benzo[b]thiophenes. These bisazo dyes when applied on polyester as disperse dyes gave red brown and blue shades with poor to moderate light fastness and good sublimation fastness.en_US
