Jute fibres were modified by treatment with sodium hydroxide and graft copolymerization with methyl methacrylate (MMA). The conditions for grafting of MMA onto jute fibres were optimized. Hybrid composites were fabricated using glass fabric, modified jute fibres and unsaturated polyester resins. Grafted jute fibres based composites had better tensile, flexural and interlaminar shear strength than those composites fabricated using untreated jute fibres.en_US
