Abstract: The binding of acid dyes to non-ionic surfactants has been studied spectrophotometrically employing Klotz's method and the binding equilibria by the conductance method. More than one mole of dye is bound by each mole of surfactant, indicating the existence of dye-surfactant micelles in addition to that of hydrophobic bonding responsible for binding. Measurements of critical micelle concentration and binding equilibrium indicate that association of the dye-surfactant complex can occur to produce large mixed micelles in solution.
