| Abstract: | There are wide ranging quality parameters of the air-textured yarns on which depend their end use applications such as upholstery, apparels and technical applications such as sewing threads. However, the most important quality parameters of air-textured yarns are: instability; physical bulk; boiling-water shrinkage; size, form and frequency of loops; and tensile properties. A number of test methods are available for the evaluation of these properties and the present review provides a critical insight into them. The advantages and shortcomings of some of these methods have also been highlighted. The lack of standardization of the various test methods is pointed out and the need for arriving at a consensus on the test methods of the important properties of air-textured yarns is stressed. |
