| Abstract: | Different yarn properties like diameter, hairiness, weight per unit length, turns/cm, fibre length, breaking strength and elongation have been studied at the thin and thick places and compared with that found in the normal portion of cotton and polyester/cotton yarns to get a better understanding of the contribution of imperfections to yarn quality. The actual diameter of thin place agrees with the calculated diameter but the actual diameter of thick place is much higher than the calculated diameter. The tenacity of thin places is lower compared to that of normal portion the effect being more prominent in polyester/cotton blend yarn. Thick place, however, has nearly the same tenacity as the normal portion. |
