| Abstract: | The results, of the studies on the properties of open-end (OE) and ring-spun (RS) yarns obtained by blending small amounts ( 16-32%) of viscose or long-staple cottons With short-staple cottons, at a twist multiplier range of 3.8-6.0, are discussed. On the addition of 16% viscose to cotton the strength of OE yarns showed a significant improvement; the strength improvement was marked at low twist and decreased with increase in twist. This indicates that the strength improvement at lower twist is mainly due to the presence of longer viscose fibre in OE yarn, which restricts fibre slippage, On the contrary, the strength of RS yarns showed a drop on the addition of 16% viscose to cotton; the fall in strength at higher twists was steeper in cotton-viscose yarns, In both OE and RS yarns, imperfections were reduced considerably upon blending viscose with cotton, The physical properties of the fabrics made of these yarns were also studied. The results on the blending of 16%) Hybnd-4 with Y-1 cotton showed a similar trend on open-end and ring spinning. |
