Gravimetric fineness, tenacity and fine structural properties like degree of crystallinity and average angle of orientation of raw and chemically-treated bhindi (Hibiscus esculentus L) fibres were studied. The bhindi fibre appears to be inferior to jute in respect of these properties. On alkali treatment, the fibre undergoes partial transformation to cellulose II like any other lignocellulosic fibres.en_US
