To directly estimate the minimum length of a fibre which breaks during the tensile failure of ring and rotor yarns, experimental technique using tracer fibres, has been developed. An increase in twist density resulted in a decrease in the minimum fibre length for both ring and rotor yarns. This is in agreement with the conclusions reached earlier on rotor yarns. At comparable twist densities this minimum fibre length was higher for rotor yarns.en_US
