| Abstract: | The stress-strain properties of Avikalin wool fibres dyed at pH 2.5,4.5 and 6.5 and of Australian Merino, crossbreds GB and GC (Avikalin) wool fibres treated with citrate-phosphate buffer at 100oC for 1 h and 3 h were studied. The stress-strain curves were recorded at 65 ± 5% RH and 27± 2oC in air and at 27 ± 2oC in water. The curve parameters were analyzed, taking into consideration their dependence on the tex of individual fibre. The true and medullated fibres of Avikalin were compared. In the other three groups of fibres, true fibres were compared separately and the true and medullated fibres of GC were also studied separately. The stress values in general fall because of these treatments which release the non-keratinous proteins from the fibres. |
