| Abstract: | Acrylonitrile copolymers containing 2 to 9 mol % of haloalkyl acrylates and methacrylates were wet-spun using 1:1 (v/v) DMF-water as a coagulant. Density, X-ray crystallinity and orientation of the copolymer fibres were measured to study the influence of comonomers on the structure of acrylic fibres. Copolymer fibres containing 6.2 mol% of 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate as comonomer gave the best overall results, with a tensile strength of 194 kN.m/kg, a breaking-elongation of 24.5% and a moisture regain of 2.62%. |
