Single-ply yarn of Avikalin sheep wool was dyed at pH 2.0, 4.5 and 6.5 for 1 hand 3 h at 100°C; it was also boiled in water for the same periods. The changes in the weight of the hanks and the dye uptake were calculated. The treated yarn and the control were tested for tensile properties, and the different parameters were analyzed statistically. Dyeing modified the tensile properties. Except pH 4.5 treatments, all treatments resulted in the weakening of the yarn, though the yarns treated at pH 4.5 also showed lesser strength compared to control. The greater the duration the greater was the deterioration in strength.en_US
