| Abstract: | The effect of mercerization on the tensile properties, lustre, shrinkage and folding abrasion resistance of open-end and ring spun yarns has been investigated. It is observed that the reduction in the strength of OE spun yarn is reduced appreciably by mercerization. Open-end spun yarns show lower lustre and shrinkage on mercerization compared .to ring spun yarns. In general, yarn twist increases the folding abrasion resistance of open-end and ring spun yarns, while mercerization and stretching reduce it. |
