The performance characteristics of single structure towelling fabrics woven from open-end yarn, ring yarn and their combination, using them in both warp and weft directions, have been compared. It is found that open-end towelling fabrics are more water absorbent and more extensible, but inferior in strength and abrasion compared to equivalent ring fabrics, while combination yarn fabrics stand in between. However, the use of combination of open-end and ring yarns in the production of towelling fabrics demands higher twist levels at single and folding stages in open-end yarn and judicious selection of loom-sett and weave.en_US
