Chemically crimped jute fibre in blend with polypropylene staple was processed successfully on a woollen spinning system. The strength of jute-polypropylene blend yarn was higher than that of all-wool yarn but the breaking extension of the former was lower than that of the latter. Raw jute-polypropylene blends could be processed on a woollen system and yarn properties improved significantly on treatment with a strong caustic solution. Blankets made from 60/40 chemically treated jute polypropylene blend yarn were comparable to all-wool blankets in many respects.en_US
