Interactions occurring in dye-carrier-dispersant systems have been studied, Two purified dyes, C.I. Disperse Orange 7 (CI 11240) and C.I. Disperse Yellow 60 (CI 12712); three carriers, 4-hydroxybiphenyl, 2-hydroxybiphenyl and benzoic acid; and non-ionic surface active agents have been incorporated in model systems. It is concluded that in aqueous media, spectral changes in UV visible range occur and these are pH dependent. Further changes in the presence of carrier are characterized by the appearance of isobestic points and spectral shifts of λmax. Additional indication of complex formation between the disperse dye and the carrier is revealed by the changes in physical properties, such as elevation of mixed melting point. This effect could be attributed to the presence of relatively high-energy bonding forces within the crystalline matrix.en_US
