| Abstract: | The influence of friction on fibre cohesion, configuration and evenness of fibre assemblies is discussed. It has been found that the static cohesion of card sliver is higher for cottons having higher coefficient of friction. As drawing proceeds, the difference between the cohesions of high and low friction cottons decreases and it again increases significantly in rovings due to the introduction of twist. About 50% of the hooks in card slivers are removed by the time they reach the second head drawing stage. Fibre entanglements and hooks arc easily removed in fibres which have low coefficients of friction. Higher friction in fibres reduces the minimum twist of cohesion and increases yarn irregularity. |
