| Abstract: | Two reactive coupling components, 2,4-dichloro-6-(4'-hydroxy-1'-naphthyl)-s-triazine and 2,4-dichloro-6-(4'-hydroxy-1'-anthracenyl)-s-triazine, were synthesized and impregnated on cotton and wool. The fibres were developed with 15 halo aromatic amines and the effect of halogen on fastness properties, viz. washing, rubbing and light, was studied. The absorption spectra of dissolved dyed fibre in the visible region are reported. All the halo aromatic amines used produce attractive shades varying from orange to violet, on both cotton and wool. Comparison of shades and fastness properties with those obtained with aniline shows very little change in shade and no change in washing fastness. Contrary to the expectation, halo aromatic amines lower the light fastness in reactive azoic dyeing. For cotton fibres, rubbing fastness remains unaltered, while wool fibres show some increase. The introduction of halogen in aromatic amine shifts λmax value to a lower wavelength as compared to aniline. |
